About Us
THE FIRM
KTA (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd started off in 1979 in Kuching, Sarawak as an associated engineering consultancy company of Kumarasivam, Tan and Ariffin Sdn Bhd (based in Kuala Lumpur) offering mechanical, electrical, civil and structural engineering services.
The firm grew quickly and in 1992, we were detached from our parent firm, becoming a fully Sarawak entity. In 1995, we expanded and opened a branch office in Petaling Jaya. By 1996, KTA (Sarawak) was ranked among the 10 largest engineering consulting firms in Malaysia, and the largest in Sarawak. Now with over 300 staff, we are among the 8 largest consulting firms in Malaysia (ref: ACEM 2021 year book).
Since then, our services have expanded to include project management and studies, as well as a wider range of engineering skills: civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, public health, mechanical and electrical, et cetera. We also provide construction supervision and contract administration. In a nutshell, we can provide a holistic start-to-completion service and delivery of any project.
Having been in the industry for over 40 years, we have amassed a wealth of engineering expertise and experience covering complicated structures: high-rise buildings, longspan bridges, large airports, urban highways, interchanges, roads in rough terrain and on difficult ground, dams, ports, water supplies, hospitals and power plants, among others. We have solid upskilling practices in place and are always on the lookout for new opportunities. This is also made easier given the fact that nearly half of our team have over 20 years of experience individually.
Though we are located in Sarawak, we provide consultancy services throughout East and West Malaysia, as well as internationally. We have provided engineering consultancy services in Cambodia, Qatar, Philippines and even Barzan.

Message from the CEO
We have been an engineering consulting firm since 1979. It has been an exciting, challenging and fulfilling mission so far. We feel privileged to have been involved with quite a number of landmark projects, both within and outside Sarawak. Over the years, we have achieved significant growth, and gone through economic downturns, and most recently, the Covid-19 pandemic. We are proud that through it all, KTA (Sarawak), with the support of our clients and staff, is still going strong, and we look forward to more of the same.
Our role as consulting engineers is more than what people may see on paper. It comes with onerous responsibilities which should be considered in every project we undertake. We do have the power, and responsibility, to make change for our society and the world.
With that in mind, we can and should always endeavour to better serve our clients’ and society’s interests by remaining mindful of our duty to care for the environment and the future generations. A design is only good if it results in the least adverse environmental impacts, for now and for the future.
Innovation goes hand in hand with our commitment to our clients and to the environment. We have to innovate to be able to achieve this. We need intelligence, knowledge, creativity, passion, hard work and teamwork to innovate. We strive to achieve this by training, upskilling, engaging in lateral thinking, sharing knowledge and brainstorming among team members to explore and evaluate different ideas. Creativity, fitness for purpose, and environmental sustainability are key considerations in our designs.
At the same time, we place strong emphasis on good supervision of construction.Towards this end, we demand uncompromising integrity, dedication and diligence in addition to competency from all our supervision teams. We are fortunate to have highly committed and motivated colleagues who share the above values and ideals. Lastly, let us be reminded that we are only borrowing Mother Earth from our children. Therefore we owe it to them to preserve her. As consulting engineers, we have to do our part.
